Edderthorpe Monday

The heavy rain over the weekend has put the water levels up quite a bit on the Flash, not much bare mud is now showing, what's left is mostly covered with short vegetation. But the birds clearly still like what's here with some very good numbers still present. Shelduck 1, Shoveler are now up to 131,and Garganey 3 were the only wildfowl counted today. There are still 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 12 Ruff, 10 Dunlin, 5 Ringed Plover, 3 Common Sandpipers, 3 Green Sandpipers, at least 7 Greenshank and the Spotted Redshank which appeared yesterday is still present. Three Wood Sandpipers are new in today and the first of the autumn here. An evening visit revealed that no Little Egrets are roosting in the riverside trees at present and most birds left in the Old Moor direction to roost.
