Carlton Marsh

Birds of prey were in evidence today with 2 different Sparrowhawks, 2 Buzzards, 1 tusselling in the air with a male and a female Peregrine. The Bittern was seen 12 metres in front of the hide allowing cracking views as it slowly meandered through the flattened reeds. A little later it flew across the scrape at 15.46hrs. (D.M. Smith/D. Kingfisher, Water Rail, Great Spot Woodpecker, Herring Gull 10 west + 7 on Wader scrape with a Cormorant. Willow Tit, Redpoll, 3 Bullfinch and least 22 Yellow Buntings and c40 Magpies roosted.
