Carlton Marsh

Yesterday (Monday 20th) Birds included at least 1 Cetti's Warbler possibly 2 males singing. (Dave Standish) 3 Lesser Redpolls, 1 siskin and 2 Goldcrests. (JP)

A Vapourer moth was flying in the afternoon sunshine. (CG)

As it was so mild, Chris Parkin and I set up the MV light to catch some moths. 11 species were identified, Large Wainscot, The Brick, 2 Barred Sallow, 3 Red Line Carpet, 2 Straw Dot, Black Rustic, The Chestnut, Common Marbled Carpet, 4 Red Green Carpet, 2 Setaceous Hebrew Character and 3 Autumnal Moth sp.

The micro moth Acleris ermagana was one of three species identified, but two Ichneumon wasps were more difficult. One is probably Amblyteles armatorius and the other Ophion obscuratus.

Today Buzzard, Little Egret and Cetti's sang again. A Willow Tit called and a Great Spotted Woodpecker was active. (KB JP)
