Carlton Marsh

6 Little Egrets were on the wader scrape at 06.55hrs. (K. Bannister). 4 were still present by late morning. Also Water Rail, Kingfisher, Cormorant and Meadow Pipit over the fields (JP).

This afternoon Green Woodpecker, 2 Swifts, c20 Swallows, 10 House Martins and 1 Sand Martin on the move.

A Juvenile Garganey was on the main scrape and showed well at times. My thanks to Dave Standish and Dave Smith, who came quickly to photograph it. This is our 10th record and the first since July 2019.

Just before that I thought I saw an Emerald species briefly perched on a willow twig in the old school pond. So I went back and there it was, our first Willow Emerald!
