The Edge 26th Sept

Wombwell Ings mid AM-  After a pleasant week on the Solway, it was good to be back on the Ings. And what a return. Present were 5 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret(departed for Broomhill at 8.55am), 59 Canada Geese, 13 Greylag, 1 Cormorant, 91 Teal, 8 Mallard, 17 Black Tailed Godwit, 10 Ringed Plover, 4 Spotted Redshank, 1 Ruff, 1 Snipe,  162 Lapwing, 1 Wheatear, a flock of 50+ Linnet, 6+ Meadow Pipit, 14+ Skylark, 10+ Red Legged Partridge, 10+ Pied Wagtail, 14 BH Gull, 5 Swallow, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker and 1 Green Woodpecker.

Broomhill Flash late AM- Very quiet after last night's shooting practise. Present were 4 Little Grebe, 2 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan, 34 Canada Geese(+ one dead in back field), 39 Mallard, 13 Tufted Duck, 12 Teal, 11 Gadwall, 7 Wigeon, 7 Shoveler, 12+ Snipe, 1 distant Buzzard over Ardsley Crematorium, and 1 singing Chiffchaff.

Bolton Ings early PM- Present were 21 Little Grebe, 3a + 3y Great Crested Grebe, 22 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 4a+6y Mute Swan, 246 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag, 56+ Wigeon, 49 Gadwall, 14 Tufted Duck, 6+ Pochard, 5+ Mallard, 40+ Lapwing, 3 Black Tailed Godwit, 1 Snipe, 3 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel  and 1 Green Woodpecker.

On closing the hide at Broomhill Flash this evening a Tawny Owl was calling from a little further up the road and maybe from Little Broomhill. Heard by Susan and myself.

In addition to Alan's sightings late A.M. there were 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Kestrel.
