Red List Breeding Species, Barnsley 16/12/15.
Six species I can comment on regards my own observations.- MERLIN, thought to be doing as well as can be on the moorlands. Regular sightings and known successful, undisturbed breeding at ewden every year. RING OUZEL- a similar thing, appears to be more than stable. WOOD WARBLER- a known reduction but at least 2 singing males in wharnclffe woods this year. LS WOODPECKER- appears to be extinct at Bretton, but not at nearby woolley with a pair seen mating in april. WHINCHAT - correct me if im wrong but appears to be already extinct at ewden. The last singing male I had here was in 2012. TREE PIPIT- another declining moorland bird, unless ive overlooked them I didn't hear a singing male this year.

Thanks for the Red List comments Stuart - some fits with what Martin said.
As regarding Whinchat a couple of people thought that there had been no breeding this year in the recording area only probable passage birds?
Not seen any myself in our area this year!
Hi Geoff, we heard and saw single displaying Tree Pipit at SK247754243 off Mortimore Rd. last Spring. Colin.

Thanks, but that ref looks to be south of dukes road which I think is just outside the Barnsley area. Cheers.
