Carlton Marsh

Hello Irving, I hope you got home from Scarbro okay, maybe see you next year. The Bittern has been seen on most days this week, but there were no sightings reported today. On one occasion the Bittern emitted a short 'boom' as it lunged at a Grey Heron that got too close for comfort. An influx of c50 Redpolls on the 26th was notable.
Present today were Buzzard, 2 drake Pochard, 13 Lapwing, 21 Shoveler, Kingfisher, Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker and Water Rail along with at least 20 Redwings and a calling Tawny Owl at dusk.
A late Red Admiral and Speckled Wood butterfly were enjoying the mild conditions. My thanks to Dave Standish, Rod Heeley and Chris Parkin for their input.
