Wintersett 29.10.16

12 - 14 degrees with 8/8 cloud and flat calm until late morning, then a light south westerly.
An excellent day today with 3 new birds  for the year list (in bold text)
Wintersett Res:
group of   9 SCAUP  were off the SE corner (WRes., (5 juvenile males, an adult female  and 3 juvenile females.  This is the largest number of Scaup seen here,  beating  a group of  8 in November 1975!    
ROCK PIPIT  flew east at 08.10hrs.
3 singing  Cetti's Warblers were heard - north bank, west bank and north west corner.   Great Black-backed Gull 5.
Anglers CP:  A group of 6 Goosander  were on at dawn and a Woodcock flew over the Pol.  Teal 22.
BIrds ringed  included  a  MEALY  REDPOLL ,   18 Lesser  Redpoll,  9 Goldfinch  and a Chiffchaff.    A 1st year male FIRECREST  was trapped and ringed, on the east bank WRes.,  by Archie Porter.
