Carlton Marsh

Today A Willow Tit called from the Whin Pool area of the embankment at SE 3709. A Cetti's Warbler sang from the reedbeds and a Snipe and 41 Lapwings were additional to the 20 Teal and other resident wildfowl on the wader scrape (JP/K. Bannister).

Butterflies of note included 2 Painted Lady, 20 Speckled Wood, 12 Red Admiral, 3 Comma and at least 9 Brown Hawker dragonflies (L & A Corrall).

As dusk approached 2 Water Rails called, 3 Cetti's Warbler sang and a female Tawny Owl called (D. Standish/P & R Thorpe).

The ups and downs of life. I reported recently how well the renovated seats looked on the old railway embankment, well last night some morons decided to fire one of the picnic tables in the car park, which the fire brigade put out, but not before it was annihilated!

South Kirkby Reclamation site butterflies
1m Brimstone, 4 Small Copper, 2 Brown Argus, 27 Common Blue, 9 Small Heath, 3 Meadow Brown and 9 Small Tortoiseshell (C. Parkin).
