Wintersett + Vis.Mig. + Ringing 25.09.2021

A better morning that expected with good mipits,  mainly after 9am - per @Fitzybirder

Going south:  

Meadow Pipit 1406.   Black-tailed Godwit 3.  Swallow 141.   Grey Wagtail 4.   

alba Wagtail 12.   Greenfinch 27.  Linnet 28.  Goldfinch 27.  Siskin 14  (4 + 10).   

Yellowhammer 1.   Reed Bunting 2.

Going south west:

Skylark 14.   Mistle Thrush 1. 

Going west:  

Cormorant 10 in one high flock.    Snipe 1.   Jay 5 in one flock.

Going north:   

Pink-footed Goose 82 + 30 and 5 dropped in from west and left west after a couple of hours.

The juvenile Scaup still present. 

24 birds were ringed this morning 

Highlights were 2 Chiffchaff,  5 Blackcap,  1 Whitethroat,  1 Sedge Warbler,  1 Reed Warbler,  4 Reed Bunting,  2 Goldfinch and 2 Grey Wagtail.

 Did you know?....   Late in the season, many warblers put on large amounts of fat to migrate large distances without refuelling. Examples this morning of  Sedge Warbler at 18.7g (usually 10-11g), Whitethroat 19.6g (13-14g) and Blackcaps 22.3g, 24.0g and 24.8g (16-18g). Probably going direct to the Mediterranean at least!
