The Dearne Valley has been chosen as one of only 12 Nature Improvement Areas in England. There was something like 80 applications.
The whole scheme is for a £2.5 million pound project and DEFRA have stumped up nearly £560,000 as part of the NIA bid. There is also £200,000 confirmed by The Environment Agency as well.
Congratulations to Pete Wall (RSPB) and the rest of the guys working on the Dearne Valley Green Heart Project.
PS - The Humberhead Levels has also won Nature Improvement Area status; which should be really good news for the guys watching Thorne and Hatfield Moors.
