Spring is on its way

WINTERSETT
The Black-necked Grebe and drake Smew are still in residence on the Top Res along with the 'Greenland' White-front in the surrounding fields. The drake American Wigeon is on the country park lake with his Eurasian female mate. Wigeon are down to 443 and Goosanders to 56. On the country park are;- Oystercatcher, Redshank, Curlew and Ringed Plover. The gull roost attracted GBBGull 21, LBBGull 12 and Herring Gull 500 mostly on the park lake tonight. And at dusk a Bittern was roosting in the top res reedbeds. A pair of Crossbills were again seen in Haw Park. The best real sign of spring was a extreamly early Red Admiral by the Top Res.
