Went to the gardens again for an hour this afternoon to check the hawfinch site. No luck. Yesterday that part of the gardens was full of birds feeding, calling and moving around - tits, crests, redwings. So much so that I spent a long time going through the flocks hoping for a Lesser Pecker. That is how I found the hawfinch. Today not only no hawfinch - not so much as a feather!
