Moorland news 24-2-13.

Low moor/ midhope- 2 ravens, pike lowe area, 2 crossbills over calling towards langsett + 1gbb gull. Then did dukes rd. triangle. No sign of any bullfinchs at mortimer rd. and nothing to report on dukes rd. The gloom was soon lifted by a pair of short eared owls flushed from the gulley south of the shooting lodge. They only flew a short distance before getting back down to roost. A very pale buzzard near the lodge looked good, but the tail didnt look right by which time there was an howling hail storm and the wind was incredibly cold. 2 buzzards in the distance a short time later looked like commons so i assumed it was one of those. Maybe better luck next visit.

park opposite broomhead hall, through gate, follow track to shooting lodge, keep going past grouse butts, follow stream left till you meet dukes rd. track. turn left, follow track to mortimer rd. when you reach the gate, just before the road turn left and come down the fence back to where you started. good luck.
