A message from a lifelong friend of DJS
'Sad day to hear that Dave Standring has passed away. As a member of the 'week-a-Wednesday' gang, Dave shared his skills and passion for birding, which he passed on to many others. Our deepest sympathies to his family. He will be sadly missed. David - RIP' - Alan Archer

Sad to hear this today. First met DJS at Worsbrough in 1988. He introduced me to the then mythical ( I couldn't drive then) moorland birding game. Joined him and his lad for twitches for Bailon's Crake and Glossy Ibis the following year. Always remember him as a hive of knowledge and giant of the local birding scene back then. Didn't bump into him much in the latter years but do remember a very enjoyable weekend in Norfolk with him, Alan Archer and the late Eric Lowe. RIP
