Old Moor Nocturnal Report - Thursday 17th July

Main Marsh - Mute Swan 23, Wigeon 1, Goosander 4, Oystercatcher 4, Green Sandpiper 2, Common Sandpiper 1, Snipe 5, Common Gull 1, Common Tern 4 adults + 1 juv, Barn Owl 3, Green Woodpecker 1. The Goosanders were all redheads and had a good fly round and eventually dropped onto Bolton. Also the 3 juvenile Lessers are now flying.

Roost in willows on Willow Pool - Grey Heron 3, Cormorant 2, Little Egret 16 came into roost between 20.24 and 21.54 as follows - 1 already in, 1 at 20.24, 1 at 20.30, 1 at 20.32, 1 at 20.53, 1 at 21.14, 1 at 21.25, 1 at 21.30, 6 at 21.43, 1 at 21.47 and finally 1 at 21.54. I thought tonight's count was going to be low until the group of 6 came in at 21.43, the Egrets were very vocal tonight. They were all roosting on the Wader Scrape side tonight (out of the wind?) so I nipped into the hide on my way home and could see 10 birds clearly. Tonight 11 came in from up the valley and 4 from down the valley.
