Two-Barred Crossbills today at Broomhead

Three males and a female in the feeder clearing early on between 7.30 - 8.15am. Some chasing around the trees involving at least two males, calling and some song I believe although I am not familiar with the song.

Noticed a male taking pale lichen from the branches of the conifers - see photos

Also 4 Common Crossbill, 2 Chiff-chaff, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Bullfinch (feeding in Larch)

Common Crossbills were all over the woods this morning, at least 30 birds in small(ish) flocks, clearly they are not breeding at present. Also plenty of Siskins and a few Lesser Redpolls around.
