Wintersett, Saturday

Following the report of 2 Night Herons flying west over Kinsley Dog Track after 9pm last night, observers were out early at Wintersett hoping... Kinsley lies just 2 1/2 miles to the east of Wintersett Res so they were flying straight in that direction and is the logical destination for them. Kinsley also lies in the BBSG recording area so these are 'Barnsley birds' anyway. All likely roosting sites were checked and there are plenty of them around the Top Res, Botany Bay, Low Lake etc. Plenty of miles were covered and although no herons were found the following birds were;- Goldeneye just 1 imm drake remains, Teal 3, Whimbrel 1 was on the Top Res for about an hour and another 2 flew south, LRP 1, Common Sandpiper 1, Dunlin 1, Common Snipe 3, Common Tern 6, Arctic Tern 1 on the CP, Water Rail 1, Swift 30, Cuckoo 2, Sand Martin 220, House Martin 50, Yellow Wagtail 4, Wheatear 1, Grasshopper Warbler 3, Reed Warbler 13, Sedge Warbler 3, Common Whitethroat 7, Lesser Whitethroat 1, Garden Warbler 3, Willow Tit 2.
