Wintersett, Tuesday, another good grebe....
No sign of the Black-necked Grebes that have graced the Top Res for the last 3 days but a new arrival on the Country Park Lake is a cracking breeding plumaged Red-necked Grebe. It spent all day on here, diving, taking insects from the surface or simply sleeping. This is the first occurrence here for four years - a similar plumaged bird present on 17th & 18th July 2011 being the last. Two Common Terns were present and the first Lesser Whitethroat of the year was singing on the east bank of the Top Res. Looks like you picked a good week to go away Angie!

I'll have to go away even more often if that's how to increase the Wintersett year list!
