Wombwell Ings- Highlight was a Whinchat sat on a fence alongside a dyke that takes water from Broomhill Flash to the sluice on the Bulling Dyke. A Mute Swan and a Kingfisher were seen on the R.Dearne. In the back field were 150+ Canada Geese and 21 Greylag. Present on the main flash were 72 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 1 Little Egret, 1 Buzzard, 61 Lapwing, 7 Snipe, 3 Greenshank, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 1 Ruff, 47 BH Gull, 3 LBB Gull and 8 Pied Wagtail.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2+4y Mute Swan, 300+ Canada Geese, 27 Greylag, 245 Mallard, 30 Gadwall, 25 Tufted Duck, 6 Teal, 1 Garganey, 30 Little Grebe, 2 Cormorant, 4 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 35 Coot, 11 Moorhen, 29 Lapwing, 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Snipe, 2 LBB Gull, 4 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Pied Wagtail.
Bolton Ings - A Bittern flew over from Wath Ings at 12.20p and landed in the reeds along the north shore of the eastern pool. A cc Marsh Harrier was hunting over the main island in the eastern pool at 1.00pm. A Stonechat was seen along the fence line between the eastern and western pools. The juvenile Dipper was again showing well downstream of the five arches bridge. Seeing these four highlighted birds on the same reserve ,on the same day, explains why we make the trek no matter the weather to Bolton Ings. You never know what will turn up ( The beauty of Birdwatching ). On the open water were 16 Canada Geese, 17 Mallard, 13 Gadwall, 7 Wigeon, 4 Shoveler, 4+3y Great Crested Grebe, 5 Little Grebe, 11 Cormorant, 7 Grey Heron, 2 Little Egret, 226 Coot, 2+1y Moorhen and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 1 Jay and 1 Grey Wagtail.
