The Edge 26/09/2018

Wombwell Ings -  Present were 1 Mute Swan, 57 Teal, 7 Gadwall, 7 Shoveler, 3 Wigeon, 3 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 65 Lapwing, 20+ Golden Plover, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Little Ringed Plover , 1 Ruff, 47 BH Gull, 1 Pied Wagtail, 7 Linnet and 3 Yellowhammer.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2+4y Mute Swan, 6 Canada Geese, 27 Shoveler, 25 Teal, 12 Tufted Duck, 6 Mallard, 3 Wigeon, 4 Cormorant, 4 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 1 Sparrowhawk, 10 Little Grebe, 2 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 24 Lapwing, 12 Snipe, 1 Greenshank, 1 Ruff, 30+ House Martin, 26+ Linnet and 4 Yellowhammer.
Bolton Ings - It's surprising how often a good bird drops in just as we are leaving. Today it was a Hobby which we would have missed if D. Waddington had not put us on to it. Hunting for dragonflies, it put on a show of aerial prowess for ten minutes from 12.57pm. On the open water were 4+2y Mute Swan, 5 Canada Geese, 5 Mallard, 2 Tufted Duck, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 1 Pochard, 21 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 256 Coot, 34 BH Gull, 17 LBB Gull, 2 Common Gull and 1 Herring Gull. Also present were 2 Great White Egret and 1 Little Egret on the west pool(seen mid AM by I. Martin), 1cc Marsh Harrier, 35 Lapwing and 1 Green Woodpecker.
