11/5/20 Greno Woods + Wharncliffe Chase (south)

Out from dawn with a biting NE breeze and overcast conditions.

A Wood Warbler pair were on territory in Greno Woods. The male offered little song and just gave its occasional mournful flutey whistle call. Possibly another male was in attendance too. There were plenty of Willow Warblers and Blackcaps plus Garden Warbler (2), Goldcrest (2 singing) and Treecreeper.

Heading through farmland towards the Chase, 1-2 Whitethroats sang plus there were a pair of Stock Doves, plenty of Goldfinch and Linnets (20+ of each) plus 4 Lapwings. Surely the latter must be attempting to breed?

On the Chase itself a Cuckoo and Curlew called plus a pair of Stonechat alarmed whilst continuing to feed. A bedraggled looking Raven flew over plus a Tree Pipit and Reed Bunting sung from their posts.

A Grasshopper Warbler reeled intermittently from suitable breeding ground a 3rd W Herring Gull drifted over south-eastwards.
