Wombwell Ings mid AM-Present were 3 Grey Heron, 1 Cormorant, 5 Mute Swan, 47 Canada Geese, 9 Greylag, 36 Gadwall, 15 Mallard, 11 Tufted Duck, 6 Shoveler, 5 Teal, 2 Wigeon, 15+ Lapwing, 6 Redshank, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Curlew, 3 Dunlin, 2 Avocet, 1 Bar Tailed Godwit( still present at 2.30pm but elusive), 26 BH Gull, 5 Skylark, 1 female Wheatear and 1 Mistle Thrush. Wath Coot and Dave Pickering also had (early AM) 2 Shelduck, 1 Greenshank, 3 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Whitethroat and 1 calling Cuckoo (c8.20am). A phone call at 10am from Barnsley Blade alerted us to a Red Kite which was located flying west over the brickworks.
Bolton Ings late AM/early PM- Highlight was the 3 Black Necked Grebe found by Wath Coot. On the open water were 3 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Little Grebe, 3 Mute Swan, 52 Tufted Duck, 12 Mallard, 9 Pochard, 9 Gadwall, 3 Shoveler, c500 BH Gull, 2 Common Gull, 1 LBB Gull and Coot broods(4,3 and 2). Also present were 2 Grey Heron, 1 Cormorant, 15 Canada Geese, 7 Greylag, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 3 Lapwing, 3 Oystercatcher, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Green Woodpecker and 2 Grey Wagtail.
Warbler Way- Singing males included, 12 Chiffchaff, 12 Willow Warbler, 5+ Blackcap and 2 Whitethroat.
