A late start this morning or an early one perhaps, a Grasshopper Warbler was singing near top of Everill Gate Lane at 01.40 this morning as I walked home from Wombwell after watching England's latest excuse for losing a World Cup match. After a few hours sleep I was making my way onto Bolton at 09.30, weather was cloudy with drizzle at first but dried up later. Very quiet today as it has been for last few weeks, 3 broods of Gadwall and a brood of Tufted's were new. However things got better when I crossed the river from Bolton where a Long Eared Owl was hunting on the Golf Course.
