11°C drizzly start, drier by 09.30hrs with a light northerly, then warm with sunny spells, 16°C by midday.
The Dearne Valley GLOSSY IBIS finally made it onto the Wintersett List, when it flew in from the south east, to Anglers CP at 10.15hrs. It flew towards the shallows, where it attempted, or may even have landed, very briefly. Unfortunately it was mobbed by breeding gulls etc, and flew off NNW being pursued by a Black-headed Gull. It turned up on the ridge and furrow at Swillington Ings shortly after. It was picked by one very lucky observer - Carlton Starman, Keith Bannister! Frustratingly, the regulars on site were not in the right place at the right time. (Bother! - or words to that effect) Fingers crossed that the GI does an encore before it finally departs.
Other birds at Anglers CP: The usual 1st Summer Little Gull was on the rocks in front of the main hide. Redshank 1. The 2nd pair of Common Tern have at least 1 young. Oystercatchers 3 very small young. Cormorant 3 and Pochard 1male.
