The Edge 18/04/2018

Wombwell Ings - Present were 4 Mute Swan, 29 Canada Geese, 11 Greylag, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 2 Shelduck, 15 Mallard, 11 Gadwall, 10 Wigeon, 10 Tufted Duck, 5 Shoveler, 3 Goosander, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Coot, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 3 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 16 BH Gull, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 4 Skylark, 1 Blackcap and 2 Linnet. Also seen early morning were 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Redshank, 1 Curlew and 1 Peregrine. On Doveside K.Fisher had 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler and 1 calling Water Rail.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 4 Mute Swan, 11 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 18 Tufted Duck, 17 Shoveler, 16 Gadwall,  9 Mallard, 7 Pochard, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 12 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine, 1 Kestrel, 6 Lapwing, 3 Oystercatcher, 1 Common Sandpiper, 250+ BH Gull and 14 Herring Gull. When opening up the hide early morning, Mick Rushton heard a Cuckoo calling.
TPT - Singing males included 9 Chiffchaff, 7 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap and 1 Lesser Whitethroat. Also 2 Jay.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4 Mute Swan, 8 Canada Geese, 5 Greylag, 26 Tufted Duck, 11 Pochard, 7 Mallard, 5 Gadwall, 2 Goldeneye, 5 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Little Grebe, 15 Coot, c300 BH Gull and 1 Common Gull. Also present were 1 Cormorant, 3 Buzzard, 6+ Sand Martin, 3+ Swallow, 2 Jay and 4 Bullfinch.
