Wintersett Flyover Relay 28.07.13

A pleasant 20°C, warm with a  light SW wind.  Light showers p.m.
The highlight today was watching the visible migration  of a BITTERN.  Graham picked it up from the bench on WRes. It was flying high over Botany and then circled over to the south bank before turning back and flying towards Anglers CP.   He phoned Pete and it was  picked up  flying high  and circling over the area at 09.45hrs  before leaving  north west at 10.00hrs.  Pete alerted Jonathan at Pugneys who quickly picked it up.   The Pugneys team  then watched the bird fly in and drop into the reed beds on the  reserve lake at 10.12hrs. Brilliant!
Wintersett Res: Common Tern 5,  Pochard 10
Anglers CP:  The usual Yellow-legged Gull, now a 3rd Summer bird, was present. Common Sandpiper 3,    Buzzard 4, Goldeneye 1♀,  Teal 2 and  Oystercatcher 5.    Then there was more visible migration: Yellow Wagtail  3 S + 1 over.   Curlew 5 SW,  Ringed Plover 1 over at 14.35hrs,  Dunlin 4 E at 14.37hrs. A Green Sandpiper flew in to the shallows at 15.15 and left SW at 15.35hrs,  and 2 more Dunlin SW at 15.25.  Finally, between 2 and 4 p.m  412 Lesser Black-backed Gulls flew south.
