The Edge13th Mar

Bolton Ings mid/late Am- Most notable on Warbler Way were 3 yaffling Green Woodpecker, 1 Song Thrush and at least 7 singing Chiffchaff. Also present were 13 Little Grebe, 5 Great Crested, 9 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 4a+4j Mute Swan, 11 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 51 Tufted Duck, 13 Mallard, 13 Gadwall, 7 Pochard, 7 Teal, 1m+2f Goldeneye, 2 Wigeon, 1m Shoveler, 160+ BH Gull, 4 Common Gull, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Lapwing, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Kestrel.
Wombwell Ings early Pm- Delayed going on at 9 am due to grass cutting taking place. However the continuing work had the advantage of pushing any birds to the area in front of the hide, Noted were 3 Grey Heron, 2j Mute Swan, 103 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 120+ Wigeon, 23 Tufted Duck, 19 Teal, 16 Mallard, 14 Gadwall, 5 Pochard, 1m Pintail, 38 Lapwing, 7 Redshank, 1 Snipe and 120+ BH Gull. In the back field were 8 Skylark, 5 Golden Plover and 1 Red Legged Partridge.
Broomhill Flash early Pm- Present were 2 Little Grebe, 2 Mute Swan, 23 Tufted Duck, 16 Teal, 14 Wigeon, 10 Mallard, 1m+1f Goldeneye, 40+ Lapwing and 2 Kestrel. A cc Marsh Harrier passed through about 9.30 am and flushed 9 Snipe.

My only addition to the above is that on the stroke of 3 o'clock an Avocet dropped in on Wombwell Ings.
