Bolton Ings - 15th July

Clear blue skies and 15c this morning but a strong wind made it feel anything but mid July. Highlights today were 10 Pochard and 8 broods of Tufted Ducks with a total of 60 ducklings. On the down side Gadwall were down to 2 (55 a few weeks back) and no Moorhens seen for the first time ever. Full list :- Grey Heron 2, Mute Swan 7 adults + broods of 4 and 2, Canada Goose 17 + broods of 6 and 2, Grey Lag Goose 3, Cormorant 1, Great Crested Grebe 6, Little Grebe 12, Mallard 17, Gadwall 2 + brood of 7, Tufted Duck 27 + broods of 13, 10, 9, 8, 6, 6, 6 and 2, Pochard 10, Coot 131 + new broods of 3 and 2, Lapwing 2, Oystercatcher 5, Black Headed Gull 147, LBB Gull 4, Common Tern 2 ( 1 which was attacking me and has a chick on the eastern most island), Kestrel 1, Great Spotted Woodpecker 1, Chiffchaff 4, Whitethroat 3, Blackcap 3, Reed Warbler 2, Sedge Warbler 3.
