The Edge

Broomhill Flash mid morning- Yesterday's water levels should have read 4.9 and 4.6, so apologies for the senior moment. Todays reading was 4.1 and the small island in the north west corner is beginning to re-emerge. On the open water were 8 Tufted duck + brood of 7, 4 Gadwall, 1 Ruddy Duck, 1 Mute Swan and 1 Little Grebe. 3 young Kestrelwere perched on top of the eastern owl box. Also present were 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Oystercatcher and 1 Sand Martin.

Bolton Ings late morning- Singing birds included 14 Wren, 10 Blackcap, 10 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackbird, 5 Whitethroat, 4 Sedge Warbler, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Reed Warbler and 1 Reed Bunting. On the open water were 24 Gadwall ( + broods of 10 and 7), 14 Tufted Duck( + broods of 13, 10,7 and  6), 10+ Little Grebe, 7 Mallard, 5 Pochard, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 3 adult Mute Swans and 4 cygnets  and 1 Grey Heron. Also present were 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Jay,1 Cormorant, 2 Common Tern and a flock of 12 Mistle Thrush( J. Thompson)
