The Edge

Broomhill Flash mid-morning -With higher water levels,  drowned vegetation and not mud is visible around the edge of the flash. On the open water were 10 Teal,7 Mallard, 5 Gadwall + a brood of 3,  Little grebe 2 and a male Ruddy Duck. Over the water were 30+ Swifts, 30+ House Martins and 2 Sand Martins. Flyovers included 5 Oystercatcher, 3 LBB Gull and 1 Cormorant.Also present were 3 Kestrel, 1 Red-legged Partridge and 1 singing Willow Warbler.

Bolton Ings late morning -  The slight rise in water level appears to have washed out the Common Tern nest on the long thin island in front of the hide but 2 adults were seen feeding a week old chick on an island in the eastern corner. On the open water were14 Tufted Duck (+ broods of 8,7and 4), 17 Gadwall + brood of 10, 14 Mallard, 12 male Pochard, 2 pair of Mute Swans with broods of 4 and 2, 5 Little Grebe and 3 Great Crested Grebe. Singing males included 12 Wren, 10 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, 7 Blackbird, 3 Whitethroat, 3 Reed Bunting, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Chaffinch and 1 Song Thrush. Also present were 3 Jay, 3 Bullfinch, 1 Greenwoodpecker, 1 Oystercatcher and 1 Kestrel.
