Broomhill Flash mid morning- The water level is still high ,but with the sluice open and water pouring into the Bulling Dyke, the level on the depth marker has dropped from 3.9yesterday to 3.6 today.On the open water were 8 Tufted Duck with broods of 8and 3, 4+ Little Grebe, 2 Gadwall, 1Ruddy Duck and 1 Mute Swan. Also present were 4 Green Sandpiper,2 Kestrel, 1 Redshank , 1 LRP and several Linnet and Goldfinch on the thistles in front of the hide.
Wombwell Ings late morning- With the water levels high and much flooded vegetation and birds swimming in and out of cover any accurate count was impossible.On the open water were 19 Greylag Geese, 13 Coot, 4 Canada Geese, 8 Mallard +brood of 7, 8 Gadwall +broods of 7 and 2, a pair of Mute Swans with 5 cygnets and 2 Teal.Singing birds included 3 Reed Bunting, 2 Whitethroat and 1 Blackcap. Also present were 1 Kestrel,1 Cormorant,1 Sand Martin and parties of 5+young Long Tailed Tit and 3 Chiffchaff.
