The Edge

Broomhill Flash mid morning - At 3.3 the water level is continuing to drop and more mud is gradually being exposed. Birds present, but not listed on  J.Hewitt's early blog , included 9 Tufted Duck with broods of 3 and 7, 5 Mallard, 2 Gadwall, 30+ House Martin, 3 Little Grebe, 1 adult Kestrel +4 juveniles, 2 Linnets and 1 Grey Heron.

Bolton Ings late morning- Singing males included 10 Blackcap, 9 Wren, 7 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackbird, 4 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Song Thrush and 1 Chaffinch. On the open water were 14  adult Tufted Duck(+ broods of 12,6, 6 and 5), 17 Gadwall, 2 pair of Mute Swans with broods of 4 and 2, a pair of Greate Crested Grebe in courtship display, 10+ Little Grebe, 5 Pochard, ! Grey Heron and 1 Cormorant. The pair of  Common Terns on the eastern island are doing a great parenting job with the chick growing quickly in the last week. Also present were 4 LBB Gul, 3  Kingfisher, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Green Woodpecker.
