Carlton Marsh

Yes like everywhere else we are flooded out, but more than that, the water stinks of diesel oil from the run off of the nearby scrapyards and maybe Monkton Coke.  The dike breached this afternoon allowing millions of gallons into the scrape.  As you can see water was also flowing under the hide and the access to the railway embankment was under water.
Thankfully our only cygnet is coping as are our 4 Tufted Duck young, but Little Grebe and Coot nests were obliterated by the fast rising water.  One good thing, I was able to read the ring numbers of both adult swans when they came close to the hide to preen.
At home on Wednesday night  I caught a beautiful, pristine Elephant Hawk Moth, the first this year.
