Despite the rise in water levels I'm glad to say Old Moor is currently open (mid-day) although wellingtons are pretty much essential if you plan to go beyond the Mere Hide. Water is still coming in at various points particularly the Reedbeds so obviously the situation will have to be monitored. Water is also currently coming over the spillway onto Wombwell Ings.
Birds: With no mud left it's perhaps not surprising that most of the remaining waders have long legs, the best being a Greenshank at Wader Scrape. The female Bittern has been seen in flight and thankfully the young birds should now be able to take evasive action from the rising waters.
