Had a walk up this afternoon, arrived at 2pm and it began to drizzle. Didn't see any Short Eared Owls, but one visiting birder came after seeing 4 yesterday on his pager. However, there was a female Peregrine carrying prey leaving NE with a Kestrel in pursuit. Other birds included Siskin 1, Meadow Pipit 1, Fieldfare 5, Redwing 3 & Kestrel 3.
Carlton Marsh
12 Siskin, 4 Redpoll, c35 Goldfinch, 175 Rook & 60 Jackdaw, the latter in a wheat field nearby. Over recent years Rook has become quite scarce here, daily winter movements from roosts at Bretton Park or Haw Park into the Dearne Valley suddenly stopped. Since then a few pairs of Jackdaws have bred on the cottages opposite the reserve car park.
