Treacherous black ice and fog this morning, but milder, with a strengthening east wind and rain by midday.
Turns out that Wintersett Res and Cold Hiendley Res were not totally frozen yesterday with 5 small areas of open water visible today. However by mid afternoon today WRes was still 90%, but breaking, ice, CHRes was 98% ice and Anglers CP was 20% ice.
The usual goodies have all held on at Anglers CP:Drake American Wigeon, female Long-tailed Duck, 3 male Scaup, 2 of which are 1st winters. 6 Waxwing. 37 Teal, 7 Shoveler, 3 Little Grebe + 1 WRes.
It was surprising to see 3 immature Common Frogs swimming under the ice of a pool at the side of the footpath. The 3 Egyptian Geese are still in the north bank field WRes.
