Old Moor - 10th March

I had a walk onto Bolton Ings this afternoon to see the Black Necked Grebe, the temperature was 15c and bright sunshine made it feel like June not March. Other birds seen included 6 Goldeneye, female Goosander, Ruddy Duck, Redshank and 2 Oystercatchers. Over on Old Moor the Mediterranean Gull was on the mere along with Shelduck, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Lesser Black Backs and 2 Buzzards passing over, 18 Goosanders roosted. The Bittern was seen again roosting on the Reedbeds, also the Cettis Warbler was seen and heard as well as 2 Water Rails. The Little Egret was again on the Field Pools and a Ringed Plover was on the Wader Scrape. There was at least 6 Oystercatchers seen on site. WEBS count tomorrow and the forecast is for another good day.
Regarding the Mediterranean Gull it is the ringed adult that was present last year but didnt attract a mate. Interestingly, last year it had a missing primary and this year the primary is still missing!
