Carlton Marsh

Very mild this afternoon 11c. I was joined by Dick Laverack, Dave Standish and Chris Parkin.
The Goldeneye duck was still on the wader scrape and 3 Goosanders (1 male) left Bleachcroft Farm Pond south at 14.05hrs. Kingfisher, Buzzard, 2 Siskin and 2 Great Spot Woodpeckers were noted.
As dusk approached buntings began to arrive in small groups to roost in the Phragmites reedbeds, they looked to be all Yellow Buntings - a final total of 147.
A Tawny Owl called from his usual tree and when it was almost dark, for the second time this week, a large owl flew high across the marsh towards the Western Meadow. Seen at some distance, it had to be an Asio owl, probably Long-eared!
