The Edge 14.01.16

Wombwell Ings - Good start (on the first really cold day of winter) with a Goldcrest being the first bird seen on Highgate . The path is getting worse due to 'poaching' by horses, particularly around the hide. Present were 2 Mute Swan, 103 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 37 Wigeon, 11 Mallard, 7m Pochard, 7 Teal, 5 Shoveler. 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Goosander, 4 Red Legged Partridge, 2 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret ( +1 in the dyke across from Old Moor Tavern ), 17 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 207 Golden Plover, 155 Lapwing, 1 Ruff, 88 BH Gull, 4 Common Gull and 3 Fieldfare.
Bolton Ings -On the open water were 2 Mute Swan, 15 Pochard, 13 Tufted Duck, 7 Mallard, 2m Goosander, 1f Goldeneye, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 142 Coot, 145 BH Gull and 9 Common Gull. Also present were 2 Cormorant, 4 Moorhen and 1 Bullfinch.
