Thanks for your good wishes Ange. The year certainly got off to a good start. Five minutes after entering the hide at 11.48hrs a Red Kite came in from the east flying over the marsh and the disused railway embankment and was lost to sight behind the trees. It was our 7th record and my first for here! A little while later just as I was about to leave I thought I had better check the Mink trap, as the trap door seemed to be closed. Sure enough trapped inside was a great big Mink. I contacted 'Big Steve', pest controller for Barnsley Council and he came within the hour to despatch it humanely. He confirmed it was a dog. This the second Mink to be trapped here, the previous one was a female caught on December 2012.
