Carlton Marsh

The scrape was 100% iced over again today so not much in the way of wildfowl except for our resident Mute Swans and a few Teal. However, Kingfisher was happy enough on the dike with a few Mallard. Towards dusk Tawny Owl and Water Rail called and Little Owl was on his usual perch.

Yesterday Chris Parkin showed me some Herald moths he found hibernating under a bridge, there were 14 the day before.

Also of interest were 2 foxes in the Smithies area, one the normal colour and the other a dark morph almost melanic. Has anyone else ever come across one so dark?

Arctic Fox in Barnsley!
This looks an interesting individual and I have not had one like this before other than one with dark along its back a few years ago near Silkstone. Good images Ray.
