Wintersett + Gull Roosts 04.01.15

Cold and frosty start,  -1°C calm with clear skies.
Frozen:  Cold Hiendley Res 40%,  other waters negligible.
Anglers CP: Little Grebe 4,  Great Crested Grebe 5,  Teal 26,  Woodcock 2,  Goosander 37, Grey Wagtail 1 and Tawny  Owl 1.
Wintersett Res: Water Rail 4,  Willow Tit 1,  Cetti's Warbler 1 and Grey Partridge 4.   113 Pink-footed Geese flew west at 11.55hrs.
Anglers CP Roost:  A juvenile Iceland was in at 14.00hrs. An adult Caspian at 15.00hrs and a 3rd W Caspian at 16.30hrs.  A 1st W  Glaucous X Herring hybrid was in at 16.15hrs.
Wintersett Res Roost: An adult Caspian was in at 15.45hrs and a 1st W Yellow-legged was in at 16.05hrs.
NB:  Broomhead Roost had an adult Mediterranean Gull
Pugneys had an adult Caspian (the one from Orgreave yesterday)  and 3 Yellow-leggeds.
Fairburn Ings had a 1st W Iceland on the Main Bay at 15.58hrs.
Swillington Ings: An adult.Iceland Gull seen going into roost by Darren Ward about 1600hrs. Difficult to relocate for eight other gull watchers as there were c4000 large gulls tightly packed and after five minutes c2000 went off East, the Iceland Gull was not refound. per Pete Griffin http://sibg1.wordpress.com/sightings/
