Cudworth Common

A Buzzard was calling and 11 Skylarks were present. (6 singing) A drake Shoveler, several Tufted Duck and Gadwall were all disturbed by 5 Quad bikes. Mr. Bannister reported them to the police.

7 Pochard were diving on the Sash pond with Tufted Duck.

Geoff Miller had 5 Reed Buntings visit his garden feeders.

In the afternoon Chris Parkin and I went to Penistone to see the Rail Tours Special' heading over the viaduct to Huddersfield at 14.40hrs. Hauling the train, Mr. Seevior, were 2 LMS 4-6-0 Black 5's, a wonderful sight to behold.

From there we went Midhope to see the Great Grey Shrike. It was pointed out to us straight away as we drove up Back Lane and some cracking views were obtained. A few minutes earlier a Red Kite had flown east at 15.00hrs. (Bob Dickinson)
