The Edge 9th Feb

Wombwell Ings mid AM- Main pool ice-free. Present were 2 Mute Swan, 207 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 67+ Wigeon, 11 Shoveler, 11 Teal, 5 Mallard, 5 Tufted Duck, 4 Gadwall, 2 Cormorant over, 2 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 3 Grey Heron, 19 Lapwing, 108 BH Gull, 5 Common Gull, 1 calling Green Woodpecker, 3 singing Skylark (Spring is coming!!!), 1 Kingfisher, 1 Pied Wagtail and 2 Reed Bunting.
Broomhill Flash late AM-  Main flash ice-free. A Peregrine passed through at 10.05 causing excitement amongst the gulls. Also noted were 1 Shelduck, 81 Wigeon, 28 Teal, 15 Gadwall, 14 Mallard, 5 Tufted Duck, 3 Goldeneye, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 33 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 76 Lapwing, 291 BH Gull, 5 Common Gull, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel and 2 Pied Wagtail.
Bolton Ings late AM/early PM- Eastern pool 80% ice-free. On the open water were 3 Mute Swan, 18 Shoveler, 11 Teal, 10 Pochard, 10 Gadwall, 5 Tufted Duck, 6 Goldeneye(1m,1juv m,4f), 15 Coot, 68 BH Gull, 22 Common Gull and 1 LBB Gull. Also present were 8 Canada Geese, 1 Cormorant over, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 1 Kestrel, 1 Green Woodpecker and a pair of Stonechat.
