Carlton Marsh

On Wednesday morning Martin Fish from the North of England Horticultural Society arrived to adjudicate on the merits of the reserve on behalf of Yorkshire in Bloom. We won't know the outcome of his findings until September.

Last night's ringing session produced a catch of 12 birds, which included a Reed Bunting that I believe is a Wintersett ringed bird Z171777 adult male in breeding condition. Can you give me the details Pete?  Two juvenile Kingfishers were ringed making a total of 5 (4 juvs and 1 adult male) since May 13th. Another indication that breeding has taken place.

Today, a Yellow Wagtail on the main marsh was the first this year (Keith Bannister) and a Grey Wagtail was also present. Photos by Richard Laverack.

This Peach Blossom moth was found by my grandson Scott Gorman on the floor outside B&M. This moth is found only locally in Barnsley. I have never caught at Carlton Marsh or at home.
