Old Moor Nocturnal Report

Great news tonight with the Little Egret record being broken with 28 birds roosting in the willows on the Willow Pool. 5 birds were already in at 19.45 when I arrived in the Wath Ings hide and further birds came in as follows:- 1 @ 20.03, 1 @ 20.12, 1 @ 20.23, 1 @ 20.31, 1 @ 20.40, 8 @ 20.42, 2 @ 20.48, 2 @ 21.02, 1 @ 21.15, 1 @ 21.23, 1 @ 21.45, 1 @ 21.52 and finally 2 @ 21.55. Tonight all the birds came in from up the valley apart from the last 2. During the day today 18 Egrets have been present at Edderthorpe and about 6 have been at Old Moor which ties in nicely with the roost tonight. This day last year the roost had 15 birds and the maximum of 26 was recorded on the 23rd August, therefore another Month to go until the peak date last year.

Other birds seen tonight included, Wader Scrape - Wigeon 1, Avocet 2a+3j, Oystercatcher 6, Redshank 5, Common Sandpiper 3, LRP 2 juvs. Main Marsh - Black Tailed Godwit 2 + 7 dropped in late on, Green Sandpiper 2, Snipe 2, Redshank 3, Barn Owl 1.
