Old Moor Nocturnal Report

The evening started well tonight with 15 Black Tailed Godwits on the Wader Scrape building up to 27 by 19.30 when I left to Wath Ings. Returning later at least 32 Godwits were present, in addition a further 17 flew down the valley at 20.30. Also on the Wader Scrape were 2 Little Ringed Plovers, Common Sand and 4 adult + 3 juv Avocets.

On the Main Marsh were Wood Sandpiper, 4 Green Sandpipers and a Redshank, a Barn Owl was hunting. 2 broods of 6 Shoveler Ducklings are still surviving.

Roosting in the Willows tonight were Grey Heron 3, Cormorant 19 and Little Egret 18. The Egrets behaviour this week has been mixed and tonight was no exception. 4 birds were in early but at 20.30 they left and at 21.00 there were no birds in the roost. However after then they came in as follows :- 1 @ 21.02, 5 @ 21.07, 1 @21.08, 2 @ 21.09, 2 @ 21.11, 2 @ 21.13, 1 @ 21.15, 2 @ 21.28 and finally 2 @ 21.29. Tonight 16 birds came in from up the valley and 2 from down the valley. the last 2 birds in were thought to be juveniles.
