The Edge 7th July

Wombwell Ings -  Very quiet with 7 Greylag, 15 Gadwall, 1+11y Shoveler, 1 Mallard, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Little Egret. 2 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 26 Lapwing, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Snipe, 1 Kestrel, 33 BH Gull, 2 Skylark, 30+ Swift, 2 Swallow and a flock of 25+ Goldfinch.
Warbler Way - Singing males included 8 Blackcap. 7 Willow Warbler, 6 Chiffchaff, 6 Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat and 1 Song Thrush.
Bolton Ings - Highlight was the slow steady flight of a Bittern all the way down the eastern pond and its return flight to Old Moor 40 minutes later. On the open water were 3 Mute Swan + 3 cygnets, 12 Greylag, 4 Canada Geese, 125 Gadwall, 24+15y Tufted Duck, 13 Pochard, 12 Mallard, 1 Shoveler, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Little Grebe, 142 Coot, 7 Moorhen and 150+ BH Gull. Also present were 2 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret and 1 LBB Gull.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan +5 cygnets, 26 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 8+8y Mallard, 11 +4y Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 107 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 81 Lapwing, 2 Snipe, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Gull and 1 Kestrel.
