The Edge 14th July

Wombwell Ings - Present were 9 Greylag, 5 Canada Geese, 39 Gadwall, 15 Mallard, 1+10y Shoveler, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 35 Lapwing, 1 juvenile Greenshank, 1 Kestrel, 8 BH Gull and 2 Skylark.
Broomhill Flash - Highlight was the Barn Owl hunting over Cleggs Meadow at 10.30am but nearly as good  was the 4 young Kestrel making practice flights from the top of the eastern owl box. Also noted were 2 Mute Swan +5 cygnets, 47 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 4+14y Gadwall, 5 Mallard, 2+4y Tufted Duck, 1 Little Egret, 122 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 9 Little Grebe, 62 Lapwing, 5 Snipe, 2 LBB Gull and 1 Common Gull.
Warbler Way -Singing males included 8 Chiffchaff, 6 Blackcap, 4 Sedge Warbler, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler ( +1 catching food for young ) and 2 Song Thrush.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 5 Mute Swan +12 cygnets, 9 Canada Geese, 8 Greylag, 123+5y Gadwall, 18 Mallard, 15+32y Tufted Duck, 1 Wigeon, 6+8y Little Grebe, 6+3y Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 4 Grey Heron, 162+24y Coot and 4 Moorhen. Also present were 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Lapwing, 1 Kestrel, 2 LBB Gull, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Jay. On the R. Dearne, from the five arches bridge, 2 Kingfisher and 2 Grey Wagtail were seen.
